Koi (Cyprinus carpio) are from the Cyprinidae family.

ANYTHING!

Well almost is actually crazy what Koi will eat everything from

lettuce to legumes and

worms to watches (personal experience there).

But really to look after your koi well you do need to feed them a balanced diet and generally if you don’t have the time to organise the food to go along with that yourself there are some great pellet options available.

There is definitely a bit of a difference between keeping Koi in a tank and a pond although generally speaking a tank is smaller than a pond.

So when considering the introduction of other fish species to your pond you really do need to think about a couple of key points?

Do you have enough space, how do they feed (are they a bottom feeders or surface feeders) what size are they in comparison to the Koi you already have.

All in all though most Koi species are pretty timid and tend to get on well with our fish, I say that mostly because they don’t eat them I have no idea if they really like each other or not..

I have found this website to be particularly helpful though

It only takes a quick search on google and you will find a number of places where you can buy Koi fish.

We mostly like purchasing our fish from local breeders, however there are also a number of stores that sell Koi online and many of these stores do a great job, I just suggest checking the star ratings of these store before you buy online.

There is nothing more disheartening when you open a package to find the new additions to your Koi Pond floating at the top of a bag.
